- Militant group threatens to fight with Biafra agitators against Nigeria The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has rejoiced over comments credited to American senator, Patrick Leahy, that President Muhammadu Buhari should not blame the United States for not choosing to render military assistance to the Nigerian Army.
- Governor The Senator Leahy sponsored the Leahy amendment which prohibits the US Department of State and Department of Defence from providing military assistance to foreign military units that violate human rights with impunity. The senator reportedly made the statement in response to Buhari’s statement on Wednesday, July 22, at the United States Institute for Peace that the law “aided and abetted” the campaign of bloodletting of Boko Haram.
In a response, Senator Leahy said he could not be blamed for the atrocities committed by the Nigerian military. IPOB, while reacting to the senator’s comments in a Facebook post on Tuesday, August 1, said its relentless media campaign to enlighten the world about the atrocities committed by Nigerian Army is beginning to yield dividend. See IPOB's post below: Meanwhile, A new militant group has threatened to fight with Biafra agitators against Nigeria. The group Adaka Boro Avenger (ABA) described Nigeria as a failed stated.
The militants said it will join effort with the agitators to fight Nigeria with chemical weapons and missiles. The ABA in a statement signed by its spokesperson Edmos Ayayeibo called on the Pan-Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF) led by an elder statesman Edwin Clark to stay away from all issue concerning the Niger Delta region. The group said the call for the rearrest of the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra Nnamdi Kanu by Arewa youths and some northern groups is laughable.
