Read Bimbola Akintola’s Thoughts On Dayo Amusa’s ‘Pathetic Movie’

Ace Nollywood actress, Bimbo Akintola recently spoke on Dayo Amusa’s latest movie, ‘Pathetic’ and why its focus seems to be more on celebrities than on average people.

Akintola said;

“It’s not just being a celebrity but her being a celebrity didn’t make it easy on the marriage in that sense. The way you can look at it from a celebrity standpoint is because everybody knows you because of your profession. Doctors are not known because of their medium but the medium for our work is television and television is something everyone has in their homes. So, because of that, we are known and things that happen to us get more attention than what happens to normal people.”

“An abuse does not know celebrity or no-celebrity. It’s just whoever it is that has abuse physical or are being abused physically.”, she stressed.

On whether she has ever been exploited in the manner the movie portrayed;

“It’s not something that has happened to me personally before because I have not been married before. I am single.”

Pathetic is a human interest story from Dayo Amusa and will be released at the cinemas in March 24, 2017

‘I Cannot Celebrate My Birthday Because Of The Current State Of The Nation’ – Kanayo O. Kanayo

Kanayo O. Kanayo is a Nollywood actor who made his debut film appearance in the film Living in Bondage and has featured in over 100 films since then.

The veteran actor is year older today 1st March 2017 and according to him, he cannot celebrate because of the current state of the Nation.

Kanayo took to his Instagram page to express himself.

He wrote:

“My dear friends, Proximate and distant. Today’s March 1st. It’s my birthday. It’s a day of sober reflections. I have a lot to thank God for but a lot to reminisce over. How can I celebrate? We live in very challenging times and at cross roads. The citizenry is divided along ethnic and religious lines. There’s so much waste of lives, innocent blood crying all over the land. How then can we have peace? Families are in pain of either want or insecurity. How can I celebrate? My heart goes out to those caught in the web of displacement in their own land, widows, orphans( especially those orphaned by unnecessary killings) and internally displaced persons, who cannot even explain the cause of their displacement. I ask, How can I celebrate? Human life just became a number. Sanctity of life is subsidized. We shall overcome and pray NEVER to walk through this PATH again.#OverAndOut”.

OSINBAJO BLASTS JUDGES FOR UNLAWFUL DETENTION OF NNAMDI KANU...OTHERS

Osinbajo Blasts Judges for unlawful detention of Nnamdi Kanu, others

A slight drama played out yesterday at the two-day Stakeholders’ Summit organized by the Lagos State Ministry of Justice.
The event which held at the Eko Convention Center attracted lots of dignitaries.
During the summit, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo accused the Nigerian Police Force and judges for unlawful detention of suspects.
Osinbajo said keeping suspects in prison custody longer than is legally permissible without trial is wrong.
He queried why judges and security operatives refused to release those granted bail by constituted courts.
The Vice President said others are kept in prison custody for as long as 3 years without being charged to court
The situation, he explained, has left over 47,000 suspects still awaiting trial in prisons across the country.
“As at 2017, we have 47,229 ‘unsentenced’ detainees awaiting trial out of a total prison population of 67,586.
“It may interest you to know that Lagos State has the highest number of unsentenced detainees in Nigeria.
“We agree that these problems are against our collective interests as practitioners and stakeholders.
“We must make a firm commitment to tackle the problems by changing our attitude and standing up for what is right,” he said.
The Vice President also accused some judges of sitting for less than three and half hours.
“They will not sit on time and before 3:30 pm, they would rise. Such behavior from judges must stop” he said.
Osinbajo’s call for the release of unlawfully detained prisoners is in sharp contrast to how the President sees it.
There have been high-profile political detainees who, according to Osinbajo, ought to have been released but is still kept behind bars.
Prominent among these include Col. Dasuki Sambo, Nnamdi Kanu, Shiekh El Zakzaky, and many others.

OKOROCHA: WHY IGBOS CAN'T PRODUCE THE NEXT NIGERIA PRESIDENT

Imo Governor Okorocha today urged the people of the South East to forget producing the next President of Nigeria in 2019.

He made this known while speaking with Aso Rock reporters after meeting acting President Osinbajo and House Speaker Yakubu Dogara at the Presidential villa in Abuja.

Okorocha also urged all Nigerians to support Buhari for 4 or 8 years tenure in line with the zoning arrangement.

ROCHAS SEEMS TO BE DREAMING TO SAY THIS (MUST READ)

“Okorocha said this at a meeting of all APC leaders in the zone, which was held at the Imo International Convention Centre (IICC) on Saturday. Those present included Ken Nnamani, Emeka Offor, Ifeanyi Araraume, George Moughalu, Tony Eze, Ebuka Onunkwo, Jombo Offor, Eze Madumere, members of the National Working Committee of the APC, as well as other prominent politicians from the zone. Okorocha revealed that the Governors have been speaking with him and are set to decamp. He said: “Now that Igbo leaders are together in APC, Nigerians will hear us.

“There is a vaccum of leadership in the South-East APC. I am a Governor. My brothers Chris Ngige and Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu are ministers.” Former Senate President, Ken Nnamani, who recently joined the party was named as leader of the APC in the South-East. READ ALSO  President Buhari’s 74th Birthday Celebration At The Aso Rock Villa (Photos) Okorocha added: “Hence the importance of Ken Nnamani coming at this time. I declined leadership of Ndi-Igbo in APC. “With Ken Nnamani, the question of who is the leader of APC in the Southeast has been answered.

Ken Nnamani is the leader of APC in the South-East. “Senator Nnamani should then work with other leaders like Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, Jim Nwobodo and a host of others to give Ndi-Igbo Political direction. “Those who have joined the Party or who want to join should do so to build the Party and not to cause confusion. APC is the right Party for the Igbo and the only Party that can guarantee Igbo Presidency”. READ ALSO  As The Governor, God Will Ask Me What I Have Done Over The Killings - El-Rufai He said: “We are going to support President Muhammadu Buhari for the eight years he is going to lead the nation. “This is the time for Ndi-Igbo to come and work together. We are also going to use the Anambra election to show that APC has arrived Southeast. “The Igbo played bad politics in 2015. Today we have lost a lot. We are not anywhere because of our bad politics.” ”

24HRS AFTER SULEIMAN FAILED ARREST, FAYOSE ALERTS OYEDEPO (MUST READ)

“The Ekiti State Governor and Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governors’ Forum, Mr Ayodele Fayose has revealed the General Overseer of Living Faith Church Worldwide International (Winners’ Chapel International), Bishop David Oyedepo could get arrested soon by security operatives.”

“Speaking through his Special Assistant on Public Communications and New Media, Lere Olayinka, Governor Fayose, who lamented that the APC-led federal government was indirectly supporting attack on Christians and other Muslim sects, especially the Shi’ites, by looking the other way while they are attacked, called on the international community to intervene before Nigeria is thrown into major religious crisis.”

“Governor Fayose, who expressed surprise that a man of God was been trailed to be arrested by the men of DSS said, he expected the security peratives to invite him if they have any issue with him instead of arresting him in the dead of the night after a powerful and spirit-filled crusade in my State.

He said; “If the federal government had acted swiftly like it acted on Apostle Suleiman so-called inciting comments when people were being killed by herdsmen across the country, so many lives would have been saved.”

The governor described as strange, APC hatred for men of God, especially those seen as not on the same page with the party, saying; “It is on record that the APC in Ekiti State issued press statements and went on social media to disparage the Redeemed Christians Church of God (RCCG) Worldwide General Overseer, Pastor Enoch Adeboye just because he praised me when he came to Ekiti. And curiously, it was immediately Pastor Adeboye came to Ekiti State and praised me that he was forced to relinquish his position as the General Overseer of the RCCG.

“Apostle Johnson Suleiman openly condemned the killing of Nigerians across the country and went on to say that Christians should rise and defend themselves if the federal government, which controls all security apparatus will not defend them and the next thing that happened was the DSS moving swiftly to arrest him.

“Isn’t it ridiculous that instead of running after those herdsmen that have killed over 3,000 Nigerians in just one year, the DSS opted to arrest a man of God, who merely expressed his frustration on the inability of Nigeria to protect its citizens?

“Or who should be arrested between those killer herdsmen and Apostle Suleiman who merely expressed his readiness for self-defence and called on Christians to defend themselves if they are attacked by the herdsmen?”

““We were all in this country when cattle breeders openly said over 1,000 Agatu people of Benue State were killed because over 10,000 cows were killed. We were also told that the Southern Kaduna genocide was as a result of killing of cows. Up till today, none of those cattle breeders have been arrested.” The governor, who said there could also be plan to arrest the General Overseer of Living Faith Church Worldwide International (Winners’ Chapel International), Bishop David Oyedepo, warned security operatives against intimidation and arrest of men of God in the interest of peace and religious harmony in the country.

He called for the release of the head of Nigeria’s Islamic Movement (IMN), Ibrahim El-Zakzaky, who has been in detention since late 2015 despite that the court ruled that he should be released, saying; “I stand for Nigeria and its people, not for any religion and it is my position that rights of all Nigerians must be respected and protected.”

The Governor said, “I personally attended his crusade and I think it is wrong for a man of God who is armless that could be invited if they have any issue against him. Are Christians and Moslems under different dispensation of the rule of law? That’s why I went there to rescue him. Let them kill two of us together. But when they saw my vehicles and the crowd, they fled.

Governor Fayose noted that it was unbecoming of the Federal Government to be harassing clergymen in the country, noting that the General Overseer of Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) Pastor Enoch Adeboye was harassed and forced to resign shortly after he visited him in Ado Ekiti. He said, “This is unacceptable, we are in a democracy and Nigerians should warn the Presidency against putting this country on fire because religion is an emotional thing.””

BUHARI DESERVES PRAYERS, NOT ILL WISHES - OSHIOMHOLE

A former governor of Edo State, Adams Oshiomhole, on Saturday criticised those saying President Muhammadu Buhari, who is on vacation in the United Kingdom, has died.

Oshiomhole, who spoke to journalists at his hometown in Iyamho, Estako-West Local Government Area, shortly after voting during Saturday’s House of Representatives by-election for Etsako federal constituency, noted that the dust generated by the vacation was unnecessary.

According to him, the President, as a citizen, is entitled to a period of rest and medical checkup.

He explained “I think it is unnecessary. Let us be honest. As the governor of Edo State, we have had to sponsor. Nigerian medical doctors who requested for it in black and white that they had to be treated in India, the UK or the US and they gave me several reasons why they needed foreign medical check.”

Oshiomhole stated that it was unfortunate that some Nigerians preferred to peddle negative speculation to the extreme, rather than wish the President well.

He, therefore, urged Nigerians to be cautious of their utterances.

He said, “We like to speculate the worst. I have been in government; to be honest, the President today, as a retired general, does not need that. The least we owe him is prayer, not the kind of sponsored, negative speculation that, sometimes, you wonder what the people really want.’’

The governor added, “To those who like to speculate bad news, they should not forget the story of (the late Nnamdi) Azikiwe. People went to town to say that Azikiwe was dead. Newspapers wrote editorials about his stewardship and someone constituted himself as the chairman of the burial committee; remember the guy who said that the great tree had fallen.

“Azikiwe, because it was not his time, said that he would attend the funerals of all those who wished him dead. And all those who were members of the funeral committee, one after the other, joined their ancestors while Zik was alive. So, let’s be careful when we speculate ill for others. What we do not wish for ourselves, we should not wish for others.”

RASCALITY DOES NOT KNOW PARTY BOUNDARIES

POLITICAL NOTES, POLITICS COMMENTS By Emmanuel Aziken When Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State cries of being a victim of alleged political contrivances weaved by agents and agencies of the Federal Government he ordinarily should win sympathy from us. It is after all, natural for victims of oppression to garner sympathy. However, when acolytes of the ‘oppressed,’ Wike, in this case, go on to oppress others where they are strong, then it calls for strong concern. The case in point is the ensuing development in the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP dominated Rivers State House of Assembly where the majority party decided to foist a minority leader on the All Progressives Congress, APC caucus.

Choosing a leader for your rival or enemy is certainly not a new trick in politics. But it is something that is done with much subtlety. Where you are unable to foist a leader on your rival, you certainly can win over the leader as has been severally demonstrated by the political opposition at the federal and state levels in Nigeria. However, what the majority did in the Rivers State House of Assembly, neither falls into either category. The APC caucus members in the state House of Assembly had on January 19, presented Josiah Olu as their leader and had as according to parliamentary convention brought his name forward to the House floor for ratification. Once Olu was nominated, Sam Ogeh, a PDP member presented another APC member, Frederick Anabraba for ratification as the APC leader. Interestingly, Ogeh’s nomination of Anabraba was seconded by another PDP member, and because the PDP has the majority, Anabraba was elected by 15 votes garnered from the PDP members against the 8 votes garnered by Olu from fellow members of the APC.

What happened in the Rivers State legislature runs against the spirit of commonsense that parliamentarians everywhere in the world tend to show. By foisting its choice of leadership on the APC in the House, the PDP majority in the House has shown a poor lack of tact and taste in its tolerance of opposition. Vicious political tackles are not only expressed across political parties but sometimes, also within political boundaries. Unfolding developments in the Northwest caucus of the APC has shown that the party in the zone could implode anytime soon. In Kano the incumbent governor and immediate past governor who are both members of the APC are virtually on a war path with both factions sizing up the actions and inactions of one another for political gain. In Kaduna State, the party leadership has put the state’s most vocal senator, Shehu Sani at arm’s length and extended a suspension slammed on him. Even worse is the emerging news that the house of a prominent party chieftain opposed to a very senior state official was recently been earmarked for demolition. In the South-South, the internal tackles in the Akwa Ibom chapter of the APC overflowed last Monday when the party’s penultimate governorship candidate, Senator John Akpanudoedehe was expelled for anti-party activities. Akpanudoedehe who almost on his own fought the combined team of Godswill Akpabio and Umana Umana in 2011, is alleged not to have fully embraced Umana when he fell out with Akpabio and joined the APC in 2014. Akpanudoedehe was bound to have reacted with caution when his former foe, Umana sought to become a friend in 2014. The management of the crisis in the Akwa Ibom State chapter of the APC is reflective of the way the crises in other chapters of the party have also been poorly managed. The same story is also told in Delta State. The “expulsion” of Akpanudoedehe is certain to further polarise the party in Akwa Ibom, but for those in control of the party, it is an action needed to enforce dominance.

I DON'T HAVE ISSUES WITH FULANI PEOPLE, MUSLIMS - APOSTLE SULEIMAN

In the new Video, Apostle Suleiman said he has no issues with the average Fulani person. The cleric said his problem is with Fulani herdsmen. He also said he's very tolerant and has no issues with Muslims either.

CONTROVERSIAL ISLAMIC PREACHER DIES IN BIDA

NEWSCOMMENTS Minna – Alhaji Mohammed Abubakar Masaba, the controversial Islamic preacher and super polygamist, who married 86 wives, is dead. He was aged 93.

Masaba His Personal Assistant, Alhaji Mutairu Salawudeen Bello, who confirmed Masaba’s death, said that the preacher died in his residence in Bida, Niger State, on Saturday, after a brief illness. “From Allah we come, to Him we shall all return; we announce the death of Alhaji Mohammed Abubakar Bello Masaba this afternoon. He was aged 93, and died after a brief illness,” Bello said in a telephone interview. A sobbing Bello said that his boss would be buried at 10 a.m. on Sunday, Jan 29. He said that the preacher had a premonition of his death and prepared for it. “Baba (Masaba), told us that his time was up; he personally told me that he had completed his divine assignment and was ready to meet his creator. “He also told us to remain dedicated to the cause of Islam and urged us never to deviate from his teachings on righteousness, piety and total submission to the will of Allah. “He warned us to shun adultery but said that we should marry our women because it is ‘Hallal’ (right), before Allah,” Bello said.

STOP HARASSMENT OF CLERICS - CAN TO OSINBAJO

CHAIRMAN of South South chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, Archbishop God-Dowell Avwomakpa has called on the Acting President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, (SAN) and a professor of law to stop security operatives from going after men of God who preach hard messages. Avwomakpa, the General Overseer of Christ Missionaries Crusaders, Warri in Delta State also urged the Acting President to forward the name of the acting  Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Walter Onnoghen to the Senate for confirmation. The CAN helmsman expressed confidence in the judiciary, noting that it remains the last hope of the common man. Avwomakpa argued that the National Judicial Council has recommended the Acting Chief Justice of Nigeria to President Muhammadu Buhari about two months ago as the most senior justice of the apex court for confirmation as the Chief Justice of Nigeria. The cleric commended the silent reforms introduced by the acting CJN aimed at quick dispensation of justice in Nigeria, noting that the country is in dire need of such a man and his reforms in order to ensure better and faster dispensation of cases. Accordingly, the CAN chairman called on the Acting President to forward the name of  Justice Onnoghen to the Senate for confirmation without any further delay. Avwomakpa also charged the Acting President to instruct the nation’s security officials especially the DSS to stop going after men of God who preach hard messages. He described recent attempt to arrest Apostle Johnson Suleman by DSS officials as a bad omen, warning that if the DSS attempts to gag Christian leaders, Christian leaders  will mobilise Christians across the country, for peaceful protests to register their displeasure to the government. Avwomakpa noted that people are living in fear and hunger and sufferings in the land despite the efforts by the administration to tame the economic, religious and political challenges in the country. He then called on the Acting President to be bold to take decisions that will better the lot of the Nigerian citizens.

NIGERIA: 3 SOUTH-EAST GOVERNORS SET TO JOIN APC

Imo State governor, Rochas Okorocha has disclosed that three governors from the South-East are preparing to join the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Okorocha made the disclosure at a meeting of all APC leaders in the zone held at the Imo International Convention Centre (IICC) on Saturday.

Those at the meeting included Ken Nnamani, Emeka Offor, Ifeanyi Araraume, George Moughalu, Tony Eze, Ebuka Onunkwo, Jombo Offor, Eze Madumere, members of the National Working Committee of APC, as well as other prominent politicians from the zone.

Okorocha said the governors have been in touch with him and are planning to join the APC soon.

The governor said the zone stand more chance now that its leaders are united under the APC.

“Now that Igbo leaders are together in APC, Nigerians will hear us.

“There is a vaccum of leadership in the South-East APC. I am a Governor. My brothers Chris Ngige and Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu are ministers,” he said.
